Wednesday, 23 November 2011
The Board of Port Commissioners has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, to consider a request from the City of San Diego to help fund the $550 million cost for the proposed San Diego Convention Center expansion.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in the Port Administration Building's Board Room, 3165 Pacific Highway. (Map)
On Tuesday, Nov. 8., 2011, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders attended a regularly scheduled Board of Port Commissioners meeting to request that the Port of San Diego help finance the proposed expansion.
He asked the Port of San Diego to contribute $3 million a year, or $60 million over a 20-year period.
The Port of San Diego was created by state legislature in 1962 and is responsible for $1.7 billion in public improvements in its five member cities: Imperial Beach, Coronado, Chula Vista, National City and San Diego.
The Port District oversees two maritime cargo terminals, two cruise ship terminals, 17 public parks, the Harbor Police Department and the leases of more than 600 tenant and sub tenant businesses around San Diego Bay.
