Design Team Selection Process

Selection of the project design team will be conducted through icon Request for Qualifications (403.49 kB)(RFQ) and Request for Proposals (RFP) processes and determined by a committee consisting of a San Diego Convention Center Corporation consultant, a Port representative and professional architects.

The design process will:

  • Solicit appropriate architectural design firms to respond to a RFQ
  • Select design teams to respond to an RFP
  • Select a team as project architect to develop the preliminary project design

Per the terms of San Diego Convention Center Corporation's lease, the project design must comply with the following objectives:

  • Meet the programming needs and requirements of the Convention Center expansion
  • Minimize adverse impacts from bulk, massing and scale of the project
  • Facilitate lateral movement of the public
  • Activate the waterfront
  • Create and maintain market viability for retail
  • Maximize pedestrian and vehicular access to Embarcadero Marina Park South
  • Create and maintain public access to the expansion hotel
  • Maximize market viability of the expansion hotel
