Port of San Diego "Goes Red" in Support of Women’s Heart Health

The Port of San Diego will light its buildings in red on Friday evening, February 3, 2012, to usher in the American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day event, designed to call attention to women's heart health.

The annual event encourages people to wear red to raise awareness about the prevalence of women's heart disease and steps that can be taken to maintain a healthy heart.

The Port of San Diego's Administration Building, at 3165 Pacific Highway, and the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, at 1000 N. Harbor Drive, were aglow in red lights beginning at sunset on Thursday, February 2.

Port tenants participating include the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina and the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel.

Other nearby participants included the San Diego County Administration Building, and the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

The American Heart Association is dedicated to fighting heart disease, a leading cause of death in the United States. The association funds research, works for stronger public health policies and provides lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat heart disease.

To maintain a healthy heart, the association recommends being physically active, eating a heart-healthy diet and learning about heart disease.

The Port of San Diego was created by the state legislature in 1962. Since then, it has invested $1.7 billion in public improvements in its five member cities – Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego.

The Port District oversees two maritime cargo terminals, two cruise ship terminals, 17 public parks, the Harbor Police Department and the leases of more than 600 tenant and sub tenant businesses around San Diego Bay.
