Port of San Diego to Host Federal Grant Workshop

Labels: Press ReleasesNews

The Port of San Diego is hosting a unique workshop designed to help train nonprofits, counties and municipalities in pursuing federal funding opportunities.

Port staff partnered with The Grantsmanship Center in Los Angeles for the five-day event, "Competing for Federal Grants." The training workshop will take place March 15-19, 2010 at the Port of San Diego Administration Building, located at 3165 Pacific Highway (map) in San Diego.

This event will provide essential training to successfully pursue the many federal funding opportunities available to local agencies, nonprofits, Port tenants and member cities.

"With government budgets stretched thin due to a struggling economy, the challenge of providing services to the public is great," said Irene McCormack, Vice President, Government Relations and Communications for the Port of San Diego. "Conferences like this one may help government agencies find some of the funding they so desperately need."

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act means billions of dollars in new grant opportunities exist. More than $300 billion in federal grants are awarded each year. The Grantsmanship Center has trained over 115,000 program planners, grant proposal writers and decision-makers in nonprofit organizations, academia and government agencies nationwide and abroad.

The event is limited to 25 participants. Early registration discounts are available.

For more information, visit www.tgci.com. To register online, visit www.tgci.com/cfgregister.asp or call The Grantsmanship Center's Registrar at (800) 421-9512.

The Port of San Diego was created by the state Legislature to manage San Diego Bay and surrounding waterfront in 1962. The Port oversees two maritime cargo terminals, a cruise ship terminal, nearly two dozen public parks, various wildlife reserves and environmental initiatives, a Harbor Police department and the leases of more than 600 tenant and sub-tenant businesses around San Diego Bay.
