Campbell Sediment Remediation

The Port District has prepared a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Campbell Sediment Remediation/Aquatic Enhancement Project. The project is the clean-up of contaminated sediment within the former Campbell Shipyard basin, San Diego, by capping in place affected sediment. The engineered cap-in-place provides enhanced subtidal and intertidal habitat, protection from propeller wash, stabilization of seawall, recreational boating access at two floating docks and a transient marina. A deep-water engineered cap will also be constructed adjacent to the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal to allow sufficient depths for navigation and berthing.

The Draft EIR analyzed the following issues: marine biological resources, water quality, air quality, traffic circulation, geology/soils, noise, navigational safety, and three alternative remediation options.

The final EIR was certified by the Board of Port Commissioners on Dec. 2, 2004. A copy of this document can be obtained through the office of the District Clerk.
