Local Media Previews New Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier

Representatives from several media outlets, including KFMB-TV, KGTV and KUSI along with KPBS radio, were given an early look on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at the Port of San Diego’s new “green building,” the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. The pavilion will serve as both a cruise ship terminal and an event center.
The preview came a day before the Port’s grand opening on Saturday, Dec. 18. Featured during the celebration will be a variety of events, rides for children, such as a Ferris wheel, giant octopus ride and other carnival rides, maritime and environmental displays, food, musical entertainment, a travel show and tours of the new building. The events are free and open to the public beginning at 10 a.m.
The dedication ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. and include executives from the port, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, representatives of Holland, Princess and Carnival cruise lines, SDG&E and workers who helped build the structure.
Activities:
- 10 a.m-3: Public open house: entertainment, carnival rides, travel show, maritime and environmental displays.
- 2:30 p.m. Artist Talk: Leni Schwendinger will discuss the creation of “Tidal Radiance,” the public art element of the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier.
Location: San Diego BigBay Lounge - 3:15 p.m., Blessing ceremony by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians.
Location: Pavilion - 1-3 p.m.: Entertainment, San Diego Symphony brass quartet.
Location: Passenger Lounge - 4 p.m.: Dedication ceremony and lighting of “Tidal Radiance.”
Location: Pavilion - 4:30-6 p.m. Entertainment, singer and guitarist Elliott Lawrence performs.
