broadwaycst-camThis section contains updates on construction of the new Broadway Cruise Ship terminal. Jaynes Corporation, is the contractor for the project. Designed by Bermello Ajamil and Partners, Inc., the 52,000-square foot cruise ship terminal will be a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)–certified building. A construction site camera is available for viewing.

Construction is estimated to cost $21.1 million and is scheduled for completion in December 2010.

Workers celebrated with a traditional steel topping out ceremony on Feb. 9 by placing an American flag and a live tree on the top steel beam. The tree signifies that work was completed without any injuries.

The steel structural frame of the two-story, 52,000 square-foot Broadway Pier Cruise Ship Terminal is being erected on the pier near the corner of Broadway and Harbor Drive (map) in San Diego. The delivery of 1,200 tons of structural steel, equivalent to 2.5 million pounds, fabricated in the California cities of Santa Ana and Corona, began arriving December 14 and continues to be trucked in daily.

thumb_20090804-01Sledgehammers were wielded on the Broadway Pier by the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, cruise line and other officials on August 4 at a groundbreaking for construction of a new cruise ship terminal. With a couple of whacks, the group broke the ceremonial concrete slabs.

"This marks the beginning of a project that will benefit the entire region," said Stephen P. Cushman, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners. "The new terminal will allow us to welcome passengers in a grander fashion, while also growing our cruise business."

thumb_20090616-01In less than two years, Broadway Pier on San Diego Bay will be home to a new, modern cruise ship terminal. A construction contract was awarded last week to Jaynes Corporation, a construction company with offices throughout the southwest.
