Shelter Island - America's Cup Harbor News

The adopted America’s Cup Harbor Redevelopment Plan includes the proposed redevelopment of the Kettenburg Boatyard, the former Tarantino’s Restaurant site, Sun Harbor Marina, and the former Bay City Marine site; consolidation of buildings and redistribution of parking and added shoreline walkway in the Shelter Island Drive corridor; development of a continuous public promenade, additional park acreage, public parking; street enhancement to North Harbor Drive; and associated land use changes.

The plan amendment to enhance Shelter Island was certified on June 12, 2003 by the California Coastal Commission. The enhancements required an amendment to the San Diego Unified Port District’s Port Master Plan. The redevelopment plan includes both physical modifications and land use changes to the America’s Cup Harbor portion of the Shelter Island Planning area. The plan is intended to promote the redevelopment of the America’s Cup Harbor, enhance public access linkages, waterfront promenades and recreational opportunities throughout the area.

The Port of San Diego will host a public information session on a project to realign the portion of North Harbor Drive adjacent to America’s Cup Harbor on Thursday, November 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Training Room of the Port’s Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway.
