Economic and Fiscal Impact of Port Tidelands
Tuesday, 27 November 2007
Financial Information
A report released in June shows that business operations on Port tidelands generated $10.7 billion in revenue and more than 77,000 jobs for the San Diego region. This includes $5.2 billion in direct revenue, which means revenue directly related to business on the tidelands, and 30,500 direct jobs from tideland businesses. The study found a 58% increase in direct revenue and a 47% increase in direct jobs in comparison with the previous economic impact study, which examined fiscal year 2002.
The study reported that in 2005, 42,000 jobs were directly related to industry and trade and generated an average personal income of nearly $80,000 - which is 26% higher than the average income per job in San Diego County. Included in the economic impact report are the tax revenues that Port member cities receive from tideland businesses. The member cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego received more than $41 million in tax revenue from Port tideland business operations.
