A report released in June 2007 studying how the Port operations benefit the region shows that business operations on Port leaseholds generated $10.7 billion in revenue and more than 77,000 jobs for the San Diego area.

This includes $5.2 billion in revenue directly related to waterfront businesses, and 30,500 direct jobs from waterfront businesses. Compared to a study in 2002, this was a 58% increase in direct revenue and a 47% increase in direct jobs.

The study also reported that industry and trade jobs generate an average personal income of nearly $80,000 - which is 26% higher than the average income per job in San Diego County.

Included in the economic impact report are the tax revenues that Port member cities receive from tideland businesses. The member cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego received more than $41 million in tax revenue from Port tideland business operations. This report is currently being updated and new data will be available in late 2009.

The Port of San Diego has approved the final budget for FY 2009-2010. This budget was approved by the Board of Port Commissioners at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 9.
