The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), a trade association that represents more than 150 public port authorities in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America, has awarded the Port of San Diego with four honors in its annual communications awards program.
The annual competition attracted 156 entries from 33 ports in the United States and Canada. Entries were judged by a team of 33 communications professionals from the Washington, D.C. area. Judging was held at AAPA headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Overall, the independent panel scored 68 entries for recognition, including 16 for Awards of Excellence, 38 for Awards of Merit and 14 Honorable Mentions.
The Port of San Diego was honored with two Awards of Merit for the fiscal year 2006 Annual Report, "Protecting the Region's Greatest Natural Resource - San Diego Bay" and the fiscal year 2007 Annual Report, "We Can See for Miles - A Vision for Five Waterfronts." The Port also won an Award of Merit for its electronic cruise advertisements and for the Working Waterfront tour script.
The Port's winning entries will be on display in the exhibit area at the AAPA's 2008 Annual Convention in Anchorage, Alaska in September. Awards will be presented to the winning ports at that time.
The AAPA was founded in 1912 to promote the common interests of the port community and to provide leadership on trade, transportation, environmental and other issues related to port development and operations. The AAPA also works to educate the public, media, local, state and federal legislators about the essential role ports play within the global transportation system.
