William Hall Resigns from Board of Port Commissioners
Friday, 04 September 2009
Contact: Ronald W. Powell (619) 665-2815, John Gilmore (619) 341-5684
William Hall has resigned from his interim post as a Port of San Diego Commissioner with high praise for the Port District staff. Hall tendered his resignation September 3, the effective date of his departure from the board.
"The staff at the Port is second to none," Hall said. "I've had a wonderful working relationship with them. They are a highly motivated, selfless and collegial group who are the best professionals in their specific areas of work."
Hall was appointed June 2 by the Chula Vista City Council to serve as a temporary replacement for Mike Najera, who resigned from the Board of Port Commissioners May 15. The Chula Vista City Council is soon expected to appoint a replacement for Hall to complete the unexpired term of Najera, which ends January 2, 2011.
Port Commission Chairman Stephen P. Cushman said Hall will be missed.
"Bill has been a tremendous asset to the Port of San Diego," Cushman said. "He is a tremendously hard working commissioner who is dedicated to representing the people of the state of California with grace and distinction."
Hall was appointed to the board three times, dating back to February 2002. He resigned in March 2003 when he was called into active duty in the military, then was reappointed in January 2004 to a full four-year term. He returned in June as a temporary replacement for Najera.
Hall said he plans to contend for a seat on the Chula Vista City Council, running among a crowded field of candidates. If he is unsuccessful, Hall said he will resume his career as a business developer and spend more time with his family.
